Sonoma House 2
The developer for Sonoma House 1 and 2 was a first time developer and his business partner - a general contractor who built the houses. An existing 3/4 acre parcel was divided into three parts, the largest containing the owner/developers existing home and the remainder subdivided into two equal parcels for these spec homes. While the original design intent was to be traditional or southwest style, the developer was persuaded that a market for modern housing , even in spec housing, existed. The decision to go with modern versus traditional allowed us to design these two very different modern homes. Both sold within a very short period of time.
House 2 is conceptually a single vault roof shape mass, cut in two and spayed apart, opening to the rear of the property. The two wings are connected by a link, lower in height: almost all glass on the private side rear side and mostly solid on the public street side. The exterior is clad in eastern white cedar shingles.
